"Life isn't about being happy. It's about being right"
Once upon a time, in the middle of a school, in the middle of Detroit, in the middle of the United States of America, there was a reticent teacher and a precocious student. Two men, from very different backgrounds, question, push and provoke each other as they and those around them struggle to live by the rules they have inherited.
Dov and Ali is the latest new play from writer Anna Ziegler. Telling the story of an Orthodox Jewish high school teacher and his heated friendship with a Muslim student, the play challenges the notion of Faith and presents some intriguing suggestions about religious identity.
Background
Dov and Ali was developed in New York, with readings last year at Lark Play Development Center and Geva Theatre Center and was workshopped at the Icicle Creek Theatre Festival. It came to the attention of Theatre503 through the Old Vic New Voices programme. This fully staged production is designed by the award-winning Morgan Large with a stellar cast that includes Ben Turner, Orla Fitzgerald, James Floyd and Kiran Landa.
